Deployment scenarios

Most body cameras solutions in the market today are designed for law enforcement applications only, and are usually limited to operating in closed systems. The audio-video evidence is usually recorded by the camera to its internal memory. When the body camera wearer returns to a centralized hub at the end of their shift, video and data is typically uploaded through a docking station to a closed system video management server. In most cases, there is no real time tracking or live streaming capabilities and there isn’t a simple way to integrate the body camera into a wider solution using standard API’s or protocols.

Live networking & remote access capabilities

Using PERCEPT, an operator in a remote-control room can get live footage from the field and follow the action as it happens. The live video feed can be triggered either based on an alarm (the camera wearer presses a “panic” function button for instance) or on-demand. And it’s not just the video + audio that will be transmitted via Wi-Fi or 4G/LTE. All additional metadata that the PERCEPT body camera can provide, including GNSS information, wearer identification, device health (battery level, signal strength, etc.) and even data from any onboard analytics engine will also be sent to the cloud via Wi-Fi or 4G/LTE, so that the entire context of how and where the camera is being used is clearly defined. Based on the received data, the operator can then assist the camera wearer by remotely accessing the body camera (in order to activate the microphone for example) and even providing instructions via the PERCEPT body camera’s onboard speaker. This can prove to be essential, for instance, for a security steward trying to control a portion of the crowd at a football stadium, when an important event is taking place.

4G/LTE and Wi-Fi connectivity can sometimes prove challenging, due to coverage and bandwidth issues that are inherent to wireless networks. When used with the IONODES PERCEPT Cloud, the PERCEPT body camera is designed to intelligently and automatically switch between cellular and Wi-Fi and use special stream configuration, in order to balance the best possible transfer speeds and the lowest cost of operation at all times. On top of that, the end client can take advantage of this remote connectivity no matter where they are located, since we have a version of the PERCEPT body camera for EMEA and another one compliant with North American frequency bands. For a full turn-key solution and simple deployment, we offer customized IONODES 4G LTE data plan with our own SIM card (global SIM approved with mobile operators around the world). The SIM is installed at factory and will only be activated based on customer request.
